Organizations

Portland Folklore Society is a small and wonderful nonprofit organization in Portland, Oregon.  They present concerts, offer weekly "song circles" and put out a bi-monthly newsletter which features a great calendar of folk-music events in the Portland area.

Oregon Maritime Center & Museum in Portland is the home of the sternwheeler Portland.

Oregon Historical Society has a great research library and photo archive.  Their historic photo's have been the basis of our album cover illustrations.

KBOO Radio, which just celebrated its 30th year of operation, is one of the oldest community radio stations in the USA.

BubbaGuitar.com -- Old-Time Music in Portland, OR.  This is Bill Martin's site, with lots of great information about old-time music in the Portland area.  Includes a calendar.

Festivals

Northwest Folklife Festival is the biggest folk music celebration in the Northwest.  If you want to immerse yourself in folk concerts and workshops for the weekend, and don't mind sharing the experience with hundreds of thousands of others, this is the event to catch!

Tumbleweed Music Festival, in Richland, Washington, is a fine folk festival produced annually by Three Rivers Folklife Society. Howard Amon Park is big enough that you won’t feel crowded, and shade trees and the Columbia river provide relief from the heat.

Musicians

Gordy Euler , half of Shanghaied on the Willamette, has published After Midnight, a book of his original fiddle tunes.

Spinnaker is a larger and louder band that Jonathan plays in.  Dubbed "Nautical Celtic Africanized Folk-Rock," the music comes from diverse roots, including Celtic, Blues, Rock, Maritime, Reggae, American Old-Time, and other odd bits from here and there.

Terri Grayum and Gwen Thomas are touring and recording musicians.  They are friends of ours, and were nice enough to add their voices to our "Tasting the Salt Air" recording.  We do an occasional concert together.

Smoke Creek is a fine old-time band from Seattle.  They are friends of ours, and we often cross paths at festivals.

Garry DeLong has sung with us on all three of our CDs.  He is also a freelance photographer, and you can see many of his photographs on his website.

The Cutters are a band that has been prominent in the Seattle area maritime music scene for quite a few years now.  Over the years their membership has evolved until now it is a four member family band.
